CASE 01 / AFTER DINNER

Dinner ends. The poker table begins.

THE ROOM

A dark room built for the long game.

Brass & Willow is an Australian restaurant in Surry Hills where dinner is only the first hand. The dining room is lit like a film set: low pools of light over dark timber, smoke-grey walls, and the quiet shuffle of cards from the lounge beyond. Every table is set for conversation, and every conversation can turn toward poker.

The room is designed for focus. Char surfaces, thin smoke rules, and a single blood-red diamond on the wall mark the transition from dinner to poker. There are no screens, no bright lights, no distractions—just the table, the cards, and the company.

Dinner

Start with a menu built for slow evenings: share plates, charred mains, and drinks that reward lingering. The dining room is calm, the lighting low, and the service unhurried.

The transition

After the last plate, the room shifts. A thin blood-red rule lights up on the wall, the music drops, and the card lounge doors open. It is not a separate event—it is the next course.

Poker

Take a seat at a poker table in the card lounge. The dealer shuffles, the chips are set as props, and the first hand of Texas Hold’em-style social poker begins. No buy-ins, no payouts—just the game.

CARD LOUNGE

The card lounge is the main event.

Beyond the dining room, the card lounge is a darker, quieter space built for poker. Four poker tables sit under low pendant lights, each with a felt surface, a dealer position, and a rack of chips as table props. The walls are lined with black-and-white photographs of old card games, and the only colour is a single red diamond on the back wall.

Each poker table seats up to eight players. The format is social Texas Hold’em-style play: a dealer rotates, the blinds are imaginary, and the goal is conversation as much as competition. Chips are used to keep score, but they never represent money.

TABLE 01

Social Texas Hold’em

The classic format. A rotating dealer, community cards, and a relaxed pace. Perfect for groups who want the full poker experience without pressure.

TABLE 02

Short-Handed Poker

For smaller groups of four to six. Faster hands, more conversation, and a tighter table. The dealer still rotates, and the chips are still props.

TABLE 03

Poker Night Special

On select evenings, the card lounge hosts a dedicated poker night with a longer session, a set playlist, and a shared menu. Book ahead—these tables fill quickly.

Poker, answered.

Do I need to know how to play poker?

No. Our poker nights are designed for all levels. The dealer will explain the rules, and the social format means you can learn as you play.

Is there any money involved?

No. Poker at Brass & Willow is strictly social. There are no buy-ins, no payouts, and no betting. Chips are used only as table props to keep score.

Can I book a poker table without dinner?

Yes. You can book a poker table for the card lounge only, though most guests choose to start with dinner. The full experience is dinner followed by poker.
